Take the Family on a Guided Fossil Walk on Ulladulla Harbour’s Rock Platforms and look back in time 270,000,000 years.

The Guided Fossil Walk has been operating in the beautiful natural heritage environment of the Ulladulla Harbour with its world class fossils since December 2009. It has proven to be an exciting and enjoyable activity for visitors and local residents from as young as 5yrs to more than 80yrs. The trained Fossil Walk Guides have all received very positive feedback from our many participants who range from complete novices with absolutely no prior knowledge of fossils or geology to experienced geologists, and other scientists.
The Walk starts from the grassed picnic area near the Marine Rescue Headquarters at Ulladulla Harbour. Each Walk takes about 2 hours and begins here with a “hands-on” briefing session.

Participants learn to recognize each of the groups of fossils before embarking on the very easy 500m guided stroll on the flat surface of the rock platforms.

The Fossil Walk is operated by a not-for-profit association of local enthusiastic volunteers, Gondwana Coast Fossil Walk Incorporated. The group aims to continue to develop the geo-tourism potential of Ulladulla’s wonderful natural heritage by utilizing Shoalhaven City Council grants and in-kind contributions from Geoscience Australia; Geological Survey of NSW; Crystal World in Melbourne; and the Ulladulla Printing Service. These sponsors are all playing a vital role in our development of significant high quality educational and recreational harbour-side assets.

On the north side of the harbour, a 500 million year Geological Time Walk follows the concrete path through Brodie Park. The Time Walk has a wide appeal as a community resource and complements the Fossil Walk.

Booking Arrangements

Enquire Now – Cost of our Guided Fossil Walks is unchanged at $10 for adults; and $5 for school aged children. Families are $25.

The scheduled times for Fossil Walks are listed here. Date and time of walks are dependent on low tide times.

Guided Fossil Walks cater for schools, social clubs and special interest groups throughout the year.
